Hello, I'm trying to determine the value of a steel dial 1914 Omega watch. There isn't a serial number inside, which surprised me, but the seller said he's confident it's all original. Diameter (with crown)44.00 mm, without 42.00 mm. Watch crystal diameter 36.00 mm. Thickness 11.50 mm. The back is glass, not metal. Thank you in advance

Your watch is powered by an Omega cal 17 ligne movement. These movements usually didn't have the serial number stamped on them, but they were introduced by Omega in about 1898 and were produced for many years, so 1914 production is possible. It is doubtful that the watch was originally issued as a wrist watch... much more likely that it left the factory as a pocketwatch and was re-cased or converted at some point in its life. Another hint that it isn't original is that no wrist watches were ever manufactured with glass backs during this period. This is positively a modern modification. Greg |

It's definitely a pocket watch conversion. To my knowledge there are no Omega with seconds at 9:00. Value, for anyone that knows what they are doing, is not a whole lot higher than the pocket watch it was initially. |
