Hi. I have a watch and know nothing about it, so just wanted to see if you'd seen anything like it. It is a Breitling Cadette Marcasite watch. It is engraved on the back with a 1955 date. Someone bought it in Australia at a flea market. Any ideas of value? Oh, it doesn't seem to work!

Thanks! SusanMarcasite Watch

I forgot the size! It is tiny, just over 1/2 inch across the face.

Thanks!

To be honest, I have never seen anything like it. Do you know if Breitling made the case? It almost looks like a Jewelry shop effort with Breitling internals.

I really don't know a thing! But I appreciate you looking at it. It has no markings on the case. The woman who owns it just asked me if I could find anything out about it.

(I'm not at all saavy about watches. Embarrassingly, I must admit I usually check the time on my cell phone.)

Thanks for your time!

I think you can be pretty certain that the movement & dial didn't originally come in this marcasite case from the factory, nor is the case even a Breitling product. You can verify this by opening the case and looking for the Breitling name on the inside of the caseback. I'm certain you won't find it.

The Breitling dial has gold markers and hands and would have come in a gold-filled or gold case originally. Marcasite cases will generally have silver dial markers and hands.

You are right! I opened it up and the caseback just says "Sterling" and "Made in Germany." And there is some etching that says 1955.

So would it be accurate if I described this as a marcasite bracelet with Breitling movement? I assume it is worth nothing above being basically attractive.

Thanks so much for your help!

Susan
