OK, I give it a try... not an easy one though !
(I remember we discussed this mistery watch a while ago, and even JLC is embarassed to answer questions on this one...)

So, here it is.

A Jaeger-LeCoultre Memovox from the very beginning (1951 if I am right, but please ZAF, can you confirm this according to the serial number).
Serial number of movement is 734950, movement is signed Jaeger LeCoultre, case is gold filled and made in the US by Wadsworth, N529865

This is a very rare Memovox IMHO, as it is a Cal. 601, and not a 489, the difference being that it has no center disk to set the alarm but a "normal" hand.
I read from a collector site that only 1200 cal 601 have been produced, so this watch is even more rare than the Polaris :-)

Also surprising, JLC is apparently not aware of this cal 601, and has used this Cal number in the 70's for a different movement, Quartz....

I have another watch very similar to this one, with both SN from case and movement about 50 units higher only than this one !!

So, any idea of the value ???

OK, here goes, this is somewhat a difficult one to value, because it may be a "don't" care for most people, yet other may pay a lot of money for it. I sold one, serial #serial #734738, also caliber #601 for $825. Also, the same format a U.S. gold filled case and a JLC movement which is probably the only instance I am aware of where that happened.

It has now been seen often enough to say that it was an actual production watch, not a typo or franken watch. So yes, it appears that it is fairly rare but is it all that desirable? We still have a smallish GF case to factor into the price.

I'd say $800 to $1,000 Max for a nice original example which is double what a conventional alarm with a cal 489 and the same case would sell for.

The serial #s date the movement to 1951, some 2 years AFTER The caliber 489. So one thing for sure, is that it is NOT the first Memovox as some people have said.

Best,
Zaf

Hi,

Breitling Chronograph from the early 1950's. The watch is triple signed Breitling on the dial, the case and the movement. The movement is a Venus 188 movement with 17 jewels. Any idea on its worth?
