I have a Jaeger Lecoultre watch, photo enclosed, that has number: 401401 on the backcase, all gold, face diameter 1 1/8", and is in excellent conditon, except glass face has some minor scratches. I think it dates back to WWII. I would appreciate learning the value of this watch and what I can expect to receive if I decide to sell it.
Thank you

Note: also found what appears to be Alpha "A" beneath the number, if that helps. Thank you.

I have not benn able to open the zip file, sorry. "A" on the case back would indicate an 18k case.

Without taking the band into account, mid size 18k watches of this period (circa 1950) are worth around ballpark $750.

Thank you Zaf. How can I determine the proper selling price for watch, inclusive of band's value and how do I find out the band's value.

The band is going to be gold value roughly + maybe $50. You'd need to weigh it, find the gold percentage and multiply by the spot gold value.

Nice early rectangular, I do not know the reference number. Value is in the $1000-1400 range.

Hello Robert Kaye, the true value of youre watch is over 1500 dollars, including the band,it could be worth double if it is 18 carat gold, and depending how many grams the bracalet is.The main reason for its high value apart from the gold worth,is the makers name, one of the worlds top watch makers, and its age, making it a collectors item.In the high street if it is 18 carat, polished and serviced in full working order, you would expect to pay 4500++ dollars.I hope this information helps you.

patitantiques,

Sorry, but your estimates ($3,000-$4,500) are way, way out of line with the market prices I've seen. I would have to agree with Zaf on value. The fact that it is a mid-size in a market that favors large watches really hurts the value greatly. $750 is a generous estimate on this watch unless you're willing to park it in a retail window and wait a couple years for a sale. The band might add $500 or so.... whatever the gold melt value is at the time of sale.

patitantiques, I have an 18k tear drop lug Jaeger-LeCoultre in a 37mm size, larger and more desirable than the one depicted, you can buy for $1500 if you'd like. If what you are saying is true, that would leave you with a profit for over $3000. I'd be happy to leave the profit for someone else.
