Hello all, I attach here pictures of a recent acquisition for me. It is a military style pocketwatch in a gunmetal case. Dial is marked 'Birch & Brydon Ltd London'. The case has an exhibition back (which I assume is not original) and has a movement signed 'Zenith'. This keeps good time, alarm functions well, although it is a bit faint - perhaps needs a cleaning. Dial is in good shape, luminous paint appears to be original. Plastic crystal has discoloured. In Cooksey-Shugart, they list a Zenith alarm pocket watch, but in a gold case. I assume this is the same movement, but in a different configuration. I am looking to sell / swap this watch, and am looking for a fair market range indication. Any ideas from people who specialize in this sort of military-style piece?

Is the dial enamel? If so what condition? I think pricing would be sensitive to the condition of the enamel.

Dial is enamel and is problem-free, apart from the discolouration to the lumionous paint and minor chipping of paint on some of the numerals as you can see from the picture. No hairlines / cracks / problems. Overall I'd say its 70-80% and an excellent candidate for restoration of the luminous paint if someone really wants to.

I am not a pocket watch expert, but in it's present condition, I would say it is worth around $4-600. I think a near mint example would fetch around $1000, maybe slightly more.

OK - thanks for that. Consistent with what I was thinking.
