Hello folks. Been trolling the board for a bit & decided to make my first post. I just bought this watch on eBay from a seller with a good reputation (hasn't even shipped out yet). I will say it is coming from Singapore but the seller has excellent feedback. Due to eBay being a pain, I can't save the pictures to my hard drive to post on here. Here is a link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&_trksid=p4340.l2557&rt=nc&nma=true &item=140522644768&si=reAFmLDabckhlU4fbz0XEUkl6S4%253D&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK %3AMEWNX%3AIT Summary of details: AUTOMATIC MOVEMENT - 25 JEWEL "SIGNED" "ORIGINAL ROLEX SIGNED CROWN" KEEPS GOOD TIME REFURBISHED BLACK DIAL RECENTLY SERVICED CRYSTAL IS ACRYLIC PLASTIC STAINLESS STEEL - DIAMETER 37mm (APPROX) INCL. CROWN -41mm LUG TO LUG MODEL: 7996 -- SERIAL: 566921 This guy guarantees it is authentic. Says I can return within 7 days of proving it is not authentic. Does this watch look suspicious to any of you? My qualms are: I have scoured the net and see hardly ANY black Tudor faces from what look like this time period. He says it is refinished but does that mean the original face may not have been black? Other Tudors I see with hour & minute hands of this shape have matching "teardrop" hour markers-- this does not. Does case engraving appear authentic? Does crown appear authentic Rolex? Does movement appear authentic Tudor? What would approximate date of this watch be & what about value? I paid $610 (after retroactively reading this site I am assuming I've ripped myself off). Sorry for all questions but THANK YOU for answers. |

When someone says refinished, they can make the color anything they want, so yes, the original may have been white or silver. To me the watch looks otherwise real. I have no opinion on the hands matching the style of dial. I don't know, there are a lot of variants out there. It's sort of bad form to bid on an auction and then have after thoughts. I think all these doubts should be addressed before bidding! Just a thought. |

It was an impulse buy to be honest. I'm happy with it, although when winding the crown the movement makes a sound that sounds quite rough (almost like unsmooth metal on metal) but not extremely alarming. Going to take it to get it looked at. Would you have an approximate value on the watch Zaf? And also, at what point is the watch not considered authentic anymore-- when it becomes a frankenwatch? I assume it is up to interpretation. Thanks for yor response. |

I don't think what you paid is unreasonable if it doesn't need further restoration. |

No further restoration is required. The hands look "curved" though. Took it to a rolex certified tech and he said that it was normal for them to be like that back in that time period (1960's) which dispells my previous doubts regarding the hands being original. Thanks Zaf, looks like everything is good to go. |
