Hello, I have an heirloom wristwatch, and would like to find out as much about it as possible. It is a vintage Longines Admiral 5 Star Automatic. Stamped on the inside of the case: Longines Grand Prize Automatic Cal 342 Serial # 12823172 17 Jewels Swiss I would greatly appreciate, and am hopeful you can provide me with its manufacture date , how many made of its kind, and any other info. you may have. Would you have any idea as to how much it could actually be sold for? Thank you. |

With respect to the year of production, I think your movement was made in 1965. You can use this website for more assistance: http://www.vintagewatchresources.com/year_identifier.php As the band is a different metal than the watch case, I believe that it is aftermarket and not produced by Longines. A jeweler should be able to give you the melt value of the band. I'll leave the appraisal of the watch to experts like Zaf. Longines is very prompt in responding to requests regarding its vintage watches. Use the form at this site to contact them: http://www.longines.com/contact/contact-form Be sure to select "Museum" from the drop-down menu at the top of the page. Hope this helps, gatorcpa |

If the band is not Longines, it is worth scrap, in 14k, probably around $600-700. You would need to weigh it. The head of the watch, as a gold filled watch (not gold) is probably worth around $200-250. |

Hi Zaf, I do not know for sure if the band is an original Longines. Do you know of a way I could find out? I mean, if an old catalogue existed, I suppose it would be easy just to look it up, but at this point, I'm not sure how to go about it. Longines (Switzerland) has provided me with the following about my watch: "We have pleasure in giving you below the information we found in our old, hand-written production register regarding your LONGINES watch. It was invoiced to Messrs Longines-Wittnauer Watch Co, who were for many years our agents for the USA and the Canada, on 12.08.1965." They did not comment on the band, despite the detailed pictures I sent them. |

It isn't a Longines bracelet, it would have been stampoed Longines and/or with the Longines logo. |

Hi Zaf, I would like to thank both you and Gatorcpa very much for your expertise regarding my watch. Your time, effort, information, and appraisal have been a great help to me. I consider myself quite fortunate to have come across 'Finer Times.com'! |

Actually the dial on your watch looks really nice, maybe the head is a $300-325 type thing in that case. |
