I have an 18k Jaeger-LeCoultre that belonged to my father. When he passed away 25 years ago, I was given the watch and I'd like to know whatever I can about it. I don't plan on selling it, but if its a high value item, I'll need information for insurance. The watch has the following numbers on the back 399474 and the letter A.
I had a watch shop open the back and I photocopies the works and inside back. The works had the following numbers: 468866 P449/8o
I've attached photographsphotograph of face

Here's the inside/back. Beautiful finish considering no one ever sees this except the technicians in the watch shops.inside back

Hi, it dates to approximately 1948. Value is really dependent on dial condition, it looks like it has been refinished at some point so maybe $800-900 as it is.

Hi, I don't think the dial's been refinished yet, however, I just sent it out to be refinished. From what you seem to indicate, perhaps that will decrease the value although it might make it look better. What does the 0.750 mean below the 18K?

Trust me, it is refinished. The Jaeger-LeCoultre script is way to small. 0.750 IS 18k, 18k/24k = 0.750 = 75% gold.

In addition to the dial having already been refinished (as Zaf told you), the winding crown has also been replaced at some point in time. The crown shown is much smaller than original.
