Hi Zaf, Could you tell me what is the approximate value for this early 1960s pie-pan Constellation in 14k gold? Condition is near mint to mint. Thanks GG |

Hello. I have a late 50's Omega Constellation Day/Date Chronometer, 18k yellow gold with a matching "grains of rice" bracelet. It was bought in Italy by my father in 1958 while on a family vacation (I was there and remember it well), so I know it's provenance. I have taken it to my local well-known jewelry store to have an estimate given to clean and 'repair' it (it doesn't run long, no damage except for a slight scratch on the crystal and normal wear on the back and bracelet). They called yesterday, having sent it to Omega in New Jersey (??), with an estimate of $560. In answer to my questions as to scope of work, they said that it would be 'restored', replacing all worn parts, a new "battery clamp" which was missing (?? - it is an automatic), 'regilding' (what? where?), and a 'new leather band' to replace the bracelet 'which can't be repaired because it's no longer being made'. I am VERY uncomfortable on hearing all this. I don't trust them, but in that the jeweler told me that "this is Omega talking, and the invoice will be from Omega" and that "there is nowhere else to send it", where else can I go for a second opinion? HELP!! |
