How much can I sell this watch for? It is old and I think it is rare. I can't hardly find this type of watch on the internet. Can someone help me out. Thanks! |

Sorry, this watch is virtually worthless. This is a small ladies watch for which there is very little collection interest especially in an off-brand like Valgine. Also, the watch has little intrinsic value due to the fact that it contains very little gold (only the bezel has gold plate, i.e., RGP, not KGP). RGP stands for rolled-gold plated. |

To expand even further on Jim's excellent post, rolled-gold plate has so little actual gold content (typically 40 microns thick or less), that it doesn't even legally qualify to be called "gold-filled". General rule of thumb: anytime you see a gold-colored top on a lady's watch with a stainless steel or base metal back, you can be almost always be assured that you're looking at a very low-value watch. A comment on "rarity", since it was brought up by the OP. Rarity does not always equate to collectibility or desirability. Just because you can't find a watchmaker's name online anywhere doesn't make the watch valuable or collectible. There were literally thousands of small watch companies established during the 1940s-1960s that bought generic parts from various companies and assembled the parts to create budget off-brand watches for sale through small watch shops. Most of these small budget watch companies lasted for very short times before they went out of business. The watches they produced were typically low-end watches that have no collectible value today. |
