Advertised as 1970 and having a new band and new dial, what would this watch be worth? I'm looking for a 1970 watch for my husband's 40th birthday. I know he would love it, but I'm terrified of paying way too much.

Seamaster 200

Thanks in advance.

Anyone? Please?? I just know my husband will love it and I don't want to miss out on it if it is indeed a good price.

Thanks again,
Nicole

Zaf, apologies for emailing you! I should have read the bit above the forum first. Newcomer error. :-)

One other question - is it ridiculous to pay the asking price (even if it is 'too high') just because the watch is exactly what I'm looking for and it's the only one around? After all, I'm not buying it as an investment.

Thanks for replying Zaf. I didn't mention the price hoping you'd have a go at valuing it without that influence...

It's listed at a little under USD4000.

I've already committed to buying it. I decided it's worth spending the money to get the perfect gift for my husband. I'm genuinely interested to know what you think it's worth but I'm happy to have paid the asking price regardless. I have searched and searched (including countless phone calls to dealers) and I can't find another one for sale anywhere!

Wow, That's really expensive! Unless the watch is totally unused. I was planning on saying under $1500 was "OKay".

Really?? I've found others that sold in 2007/2008 for around GBP1400 in the UK and USD1800 in the US or Canada, so I thought it might be likely they had increased at least little since then.

Thanks for your feedback. Much appreciated.

In general, the market is down by 20-40% since 2007 and 2008 levels (depending on model & brand).

Congratulations Dubaimum. A watch is worth what someone pays for it. If you have the watch you want and can afford it, then I think you did the right thing. Happy Birthday to hubby.

Zaf, again, your feedback is much appreciated. Thanks so much.

Thanks to you too Rebus. I'm happy with my decision. Can't wait to see the look on my husband's face when the watch arrives!

lol...in these economic times and when my husband is working for one of Dubai's least stable employers, nope, we can't really "afford" it. But hey, he only turns 40 once, right?
