I have a question about minor restoration work on vintage watches I purchase, assuming they are in good or better general shape otherwise. First, can a glass crystal w/ a non-standard shape be replaced? Or can noticible scratches be 'polished out'? Second, is it difficult to repair enamel work on a watch, such as the decorative ones created in States during the 20s & 30s in particular? Thanks.

Hi.
1. What do yopu mean by "non standard shape", like a triangle? Both glass and plastic can be polished though much more work goes into polishing glass.
2. I assume you men an enamel dial? Enamel work is quasi impossible to repair properly without refiring it. Not many places can pull that off and it is expensive. If you mean enamel on a case, then it might be possible to touch it up with paint that produces an OK result, thugh I have not tried this.
