Hi, I'm a longtime lurker (I love the selection of military watches and often visit the "New Today" page!) who's now come into possession of my father's old gold Vacheron & Constantin and I'm wondering what value I should list for insurance purposes. My Dad bought the watch new from a very reputable company back in the mid to late 60s, the bracelet is after-market and is also gold. The dial is original, but I think the crystal has been replaced. No numbers on the outside, but there are two hallmarks on the backside of the lugs that have been worn down with age and cannot be read. The case is quite thin and measures 34mm (without the crown) by 40 mm from lug to lug. There's also a blue cap (sapphire?) on the crown. Can you help me identify the style and tell me its approximate value?

For insurance purposes, $4000 ought to do it, though in practice, the "thin cased" models typically sell for around $3000 (or less) for the head, but yours has a bracelet, so $4k is OK. |
