Hi!
I'm sort of new to this whole vintage-watch-thing...

I recently inherited the above mentioned watch... on omega.ch i found several interesting infos, but i would like to know what it is worth...

what i found out so far:
1965 seamaster special automatic date, cal. 562, ref.166.010, movement 22739130
it is stated as beeing 14k gold cap on SS...what does that mean? is it gold plated, but only on top?? the bottom of the lugs seems to be steel...

it is in excellent condition, the dial has not been repainted as far as i know, but the glass was replaced about 10years ago...it looses approx. 15 seconds per day. could this be improved, or ist it ok?

thank you in advance for your help!
Dave.

That's a real nice one there. Love to get a better look at the dial. Black dials from that era are fairly rare.

If you have the watch serviced, the watchmaker may be able to increase the accuracy a bit. However, 15 sec. a day is not bad for a 40 year old Omega that hasn't been serviced in some time.

Here is an article on gold capped watch cases that might be of some interest to you:

Hope this helps,

Hello Zaf

Thanks for your help with the JLC models I posted you about a few days ago - The Club model is already plus 400 with 2 days to go - so perhaps not such a good buy.

I would really appreciate your opinion of this item -authenticity / marriage/ dial / value estimate

Many Thanks as ever for your indispensible help and advice.

I can't tell what is going on with the smaller photos, but the JLC looks legit. is this your watch or something you want to buy?

I'd prefer to give values on items people actually own, but can comment on authenticity regardless.

...looks like my thread has been hijacked ;-)

@gatorcpa:
thanks for the link, very interesting...
i'll try to take a better picture of the dial.
How often should i service the watch? i think the last service was about 10 years ago, when the glass was replaced...

@Zaf:
I actually own the omega watch...any comments would be appreciated...

Dave.

2 more pictures...i apologize for the bad qualitiy, but it's not so easy to focus on the black dial with all the shiny gold around it ;-)

the "scratches" in this pic are actually my fingerprints on the glass.

there is some patina on the hands, but its hard to make out in the pic.

And another question:
i just tried to set the time & date right, but i can only turn the crown clockwise, meaning to run the time back. when i try to turn the other way it seems that the i loosen the crown like a screw??
