I have recently been given this watch which when i attempted to gain some understanding about its history - confused me. I am unsure as to its date of origin, if its a ladies or gents watch and some idea of value would be nice.
I think the crown is not genuine and it is slightly bent, however the watch works perfectly and keeps good time. The strap is not a good one either. The number stamped into the case is 98929 but it also says Made in England on the case back. The hallmarks have also been difficult to research. The only definate is that the case is 9ct Gold (375) and probably the 9. I think the (U) is a date. I assume that (ALD) is the sponsor's mark but again not completly sure and the other mark looks like a tree or a clover or a flower with leaves. The watch itself has 929 stamped on the underside which matched the last three digits stamped on the case back (inside). However the movement has, I think the number 6819384 stamped on it along with the words Longines, Swiss Made, 15 Jewels. The lugs are fixed and the measurements areas follows: Length (lug to lug) = 37mm Width (incl crown) = 32mm Bezel = 25mm Overall thickness (max) = 9mm approx The case splits into three top, middle, bottom non of which are hinged. I hope this is enough information for you to work with. Regards |

It's a mens watch, British market, 9k solid gold, the dial has a few hairlines, as such, a price range would be in the $400-700 depending on actual condition and how much mechanical restoration it needs. |

Hi, thanks for your appraisal. Is there a market for this watch? I am considering having it restored and then selling it. Would i realise the cost of restoration or is there a likelyhood of taking a loss on that? |

It's probably around 1925. If it runs and keeps time, I'd sell it as it is if I were you. |
