Hi Zaf, I'm a newbie here and I have been researching the Rolex 1655 below that was my father's watch. It was purchased new in 1972. I have purchased a brand new Rolex crystal because the original is somewhat scratched from normal to heavy wear. The watch is stock and has been regularly maintenanced. The band is 7836. I'd say the watch is in good condition. I have the original papers, box and booklet. Any idea on its worth and whether I would devalue it by changing the crystal? Thanks in advance! Matt

Normally something like this would go for around $10,000. However, yours has box & papers and is a one owner watch which is a plus. What a collector will pay for those bonus features, above and beyond $10k is the question. I don't think you'd devalue it by replacing the crystal with a correct Rolex one, if the original isn't deeply scratched you can just polish it up. In which case you might as well leave it original. Best, Zaf |

Thanks Zaf! I greatly appreciate the response. I plan to hold onto this watch, but was wondering about value for insurance purposes. I'll see what I can do about the crystal. Thanks again! |
