This watch belonged to my father, who was given it during World War II. Here is all the information I could get from examining it. At one point he had the original mechanism (pictured at right) replaced by a battery-powered one, which like the original does not currently function):

Rear of case: 14K

Inside case: "Cased & Timed in USA by LeCoultre 14K gold (fancy letter "A")

Number printed: 00009587

Date above is scratched in, perhaps 1/4/66? (I'm assuming this is when my father had the mechanism replaced)

On the original mechanism: "LeCoultre Swiss Unadjusted"

and: "Jewels Seventeen 17"

Also another number on the mechanism which is had to read but which might be one of these:

480 1 CW
480/CW
4807 CW

In another spot on the original mechanism is the number "994131"

Many thanks to all!

This looks kind of like the LeCoultre "Sir Winston" as shown in the bottom left of this ad:

The watch can certainly be put together properly by a qualified watchmaker.

Hope this helps,

Is there anyone who can give me an idea on this watch -- whether it makes sense to have the battery mechanism fixed and have it put together?

Many thanks!

I'd fix the watch trying to return it to original condition if it's a family piece.

Thank you, Zaf. So very kind of you to respond! I was thinking along those lines too, and will look for someone good here in Los Angeles.

If you can't find someone, we can do it in DC. More info here:
