The "market" for used, vintage, ladies cocktail watches seems to be almost non-existent. With gold over $1600/oz your advice re "scrap value" is appropriate. But, does the rarity or quality of the movement make any difference? As an example the 2 photos. The faces of each watch are unbranded except for "Swiss". The movements are from the 1930"s.The cases are 14K.

Hi, try again with the photos please. If it isn't one of the top 5 brand names Rolex, Patek, Vacheron, Audemars, etc. It would be unlikely a ladies watch will fetch much more than scrap in a real world scenario.

hello zaf,
i recently bought a watch and am not sure of it's authenticity. the refinished face is signed ulysse nardin, as is the stainless steel inside case back cover. the outside caseback is stamped stainless steel / swiss made / 0151.
the movement is stamped swiss made - 15 jewels. there is no serial #, nor is there a caliber stamp. there is a stamp of what looks like a 4 leaf clover with an S inside. if not U.N. then who uses the clover logo? the watch is ss and i paid $550 for it. was it worth it? Movement w/logo

I am not aware of Ulysse Nardin signed this way, so until proven otherwise and since the dial is refinished, you should assume it is not a U.N.

Stuff coming out of South America, I have found, is very tricky to buy. You need to be very knowledgeable not to get ripped off.

Sorry I had a problem up loading the photos. Here they are: Dreffa and Rado. The watch dials have no trade mark other than "Swiss".
Thanks for your help.DreffaRado
