Hello,

I have just purchased a Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical 38mm with grey dial and a canvas/leather strap. I was hoping for some pointers on how to care for this mechanical watch, as it is my first. I've owned quartz and automatics, but this is my first hand-wound.

Specific questions I have are:

1. What is the power reserve for the Swiss ETA 2804-2 movement on this Hamilton? Do I need to wind it daily?

2. How many turns should I wind the watch? I usually stop when I feel the crown spinning back after I twist it. I presume this is the proper way to do it.

3. How fast should I twist the crown while winding the watch?

4. If my watch is fast, is it okay to turn the time backwards (counter clock-wise) a few minutes to adjust it, or should I do a full 12 hour clockwise turn?

Any other advice concerning this subject will also be greatly appreciated.

The Swiss ETA 2804 on this watch is truely fantastic! Plus, I love how the watch is only 38mm. Makes it very distinguished in this age of oversized divers and, oh heck, every kind of watch nowadays is oversized...

Thanks.
Will

1. Typically around 40 hrs.
2. Until you feel resistance at the end.
3. Doesn't matter. Slower is probably better, so you can feel resitance at the end of the wind w/o overstressing the winding mechanism.
4. Yes, not a problem to turns hands backwards.
