There is a guy currently auctioning a Hamilton and calling it a Sentinel. However after doing some research it looks like a mistaken identity for a secometer. Sentinel pre-WWI. Secometer post-WWII. Both have the same hacking movement.

To elaborate. The first pic is a secometer pic and the second is a sentinel pic example is from the price list. FYI for those who wish to get the right one. |

Actually, the large photo is the Vancott model, their first release after WWII. It was Hamilton's first wristwatch with a bi-metallic case and was never in their catalog. The bezel is solid gold and the back is stainless steel. There are some Vancotts with solid gold backs as well, but they are rare. Now, if you put the Vancott dial with the Sentinel case, you've got the Secometer model, first introduced in 1946. The Sentinel first appeared in 1941. Here's a link: http://www.vintagewatch.info/Detail%20-%20Vancott%20-%2010K.htm |

Thanks for the clarification. I believe I own a Secometer, but now I will have to look at it again. My watch doesn't have an SS case back. |

My watch is a Secometer. The case looks like the Sentinel instead of the large picture in my first posting. Thanks again. |
