What to do with this watch? Pretty beat up. 19 jewels, 979-f. Looks like a Glenn Curtiss but has a Wadsworth case...? Missing minute hand; doesn't wind, otherwise looks fine on the inside.

Your watch is a "Webster" model. Some of these had the 979 movement found in the solid gold models. The case size and dial are the same as for the Glenn Curtiss.

Here's some more information:

Hope this helps,

That does help -- thanks! I have an Omega from '58 that needs a replacement bezel -- I see that both repair shops (Hamilton and Omega) are in the same Seacaucus NJ building. When I sent my Omega in last time (equally beat up), they shipped it to Switzerland and it came back looking great. I think I'll ship both of these; I'd like to get an assessment of what it would take to restore this one.

Hamilton was sold to the Swiss in the 1960's. Today it is part of Swatch, along with Omega. They do not have parts for any watch sold prior to the Swatch acquisition, which occurred around 1990.

I don't think today's Hamilton will be able to do anything for you. You'd be much better off with an independant watchmaker, like Zaf. Parts for these older Hamilton movements are generally avaliable from old line US-based parts houses, like Jules Borel.

Good luck,

Generally speaking we can fix just about anything still, on things like the hands though, it becomes more of a challenge, but we usually have something in stock that is original if you're luck or very close if you're not.

Got it, thanks -- Zaf, I will probably be reaching out to you soon.

Jules Borel stocks most of the older Hamilton hands. If Zaf doesn't have the correct hands, you should be able to get them after he gets the proper measurements.
