I need info on a hamilton wrist watch I recently purchased. It has an engraving on the back awarded to a person in 1957. (It also says gold electroplated bezel. Stainless Steel back. Water resistant. 707001-4). I have included a picture of the face. I need to know if this is the original movement in this watch. If so, is 1957 the year it was made. I read that 1957 was the first year Hamilton made a quartz watch, but I cannot find this style anywhere on the internet. When I replaced the battery, I do remember that it said seven (7) jewels on the movement. Any info would be appreciated.
As indicated on the dial your watch is a quartz Hamilton model. It does not date to 1957. It is true that in 1957 Hamilton introduced the first battery-powered "electronic" watch but this was not a quartz watch. The first production quartz watch was not introduced until 1969 (by Seiko). Your watch appears to date from the 1970s. If this is an "award" watch and the date 1957 appears on the back then 1957 is likely the starting date for the employee. This is could therefore be a 20 year anniversary watch dating to the mid 1970s.
