I have had for quite some time a Hamilton timepiece, which I purchased as a "bomb timer". It is about 1 1/4" by 5/8", in a chrome case. The top of the case, which holds the crystal has two holes in a flange like extension of the case. It appears to have been made for fastening in a small rectangular hole. I can find no terminals for attaching a wire. The movement is labeled "Hamilton USA, 19 Jewels, 982" The serial number is "J205969". The movement is a rectangular one, the movement is sideways; i.e. the winding stem is above the 12, and the seconds scale (a quitelarge one) is at 3:00. The case is a Keystone Watchcase, # 1154956. A pin extends from the side of the watch (about 1/4"), which is attached to a fine wire hook inside the case, which engages the balance wheel and serves to stop the watch for setting. (A Hack Setting).I haven't found any information on this timepiece in the several books I have. Anyone know what this is, and what it was originally used for? Thanks. -- NAWCC #0105930 / AWI #30531 / NRA Patron Member |

Greetings and a BombTimer it is! My understanding is that it was mounted in WWII bombers bomb sight and used, in conjunction with the hack setting and a camera, to record a bomb's trajectory (hence the large seconds chapter). I've seen 'em in chrome and anodized (black) with both the horizontal layout you describe and vertical (crown at 3) but usually w/the 980. Fairly scarce -enjoy! Rusty |

Nice explanation! I wasn't quite sure, so didn't say anything. I do know that all straps are adaptations, I just didn't know what the thing hooked up too! Thanks, Zaf |
