My grandfather, Philip J. Wendel, was an executive at Hamilton Watch for many years; he got my dad a job at the factory in Lancaster just after WWII, where he learned to become a watchmaker. I just inherited my grandfather's pocket watch and I'm eager to learn what I can about it. I've tried taking photos but I just can't seem to get the darn thing in focus. I'll be very grateful for any information anyone may be able to provide. Here's what I know: the serial number on the works is 2001698. There's also a serial number and inscription on the interior of the case: Hamilton Watch Company Lancaster PA 25 Years 9782806. It's obviously a 25th anniversary "edition" but I don't know what year would have been considered 25 for Hamilton. It's 14K gold and has 17 jewels. The face has a copper-ish color, a sweep second-hand in a small dial at the bottom and the word "Hamilton" on the face. From the top of the attachment atop the stem to the bottom of the attachement for the chain, it is 1.5 inches. The watch itself is just about 1 inch in diameter. |

This looks like a ladies "pendant" watch. The movement dates from 1917, which is the 25th anniversary of the founding of Hamilton Watch Co., so I think you are on to something there. Here is a link to another forum that discusses the model 988 movement and has some clearer pictures: http://www.global-horology.com/GHMB/viewtopic.php?f=137&t=1931&p=12758 Hope this helps, gatorcpa |

You have a ladies "bracelet watch" with what looks to be an after market chain. See my pictures. I have the original box and watch.
