I've inherited a Hamilton Model 22 from the 1940s. It's in a large box and with brass rings so it will tip and turn in all directions, I believe for use on a ship. On its face, just below the 12, is a semi-circle numbered from 8, 16, 24 up to 48. Just below the 8 is the word "UP", and just below the 48 is the word "DOWN". Can you tell me what this is? I can set the time by lifting the stem and turning (like a standard watch). But when I try to "wind" it (with the stem down), it simply moves the small hand that points to the 8, 16, 24, etc. Any information that anyone can give me about this giant timepiece would be greatly appreciated. |

The UP/DOWN is a power reserve indicator that shows how many hours are left before the watch stops. Normally you can only set the time by pressing a small pin on the side of the case at 11:00, it sounds like something isn't right from what you describe. |
