Hi I've posted a lengthy entry in the Swiss Watch thread on the Bulova Lone Eagle Watch, but wondered if folks on the American Watch Talk thread may know something about this wristwatch, released to commemorate Charles Lindbergh's aviation accomplishments in early 1927. Story goes the original cut corner watch was released in Paris on the day Lindbergh completed his solo transatlantic flight and sold out 5000 units in less than three days. However, we have been unable to find any advertisements in Paris about this watch sales event. Surly there must have been a big ad campaign to sell 5000 watches when it was unsure if Lindbergh would even complete the flight. Also most, if now all of the folks who now own these first model (cut corner 1927 Lone Eagle Bulova wristwatch) are Americans. Maybe Bulova never sold the watch in Paris at the May 21 1927 landing, but waited until Lindbergh returned to USA and sold at his grand ticker tape parade in New York. The Smithsonian has three examples of these series of watches in their national air and space museum collection at :http://www.nasm.si.edu/collections/result.cfm?startrow=0&qp=lone+eagle+bulova&su bmit=SEARCH&collection=nasm&searchtype=collectionsdb which were donated by the Stanley King Family. Does anyone know of any advertisements for the sales of this watch on/around may 1927 in either Paris or USA? Please and thanks For more info, see my post in Swiss watches under Bulova Lone Eagle.
