hi zaf, my name is benita and i'm new here. i keep running across vintage watches at various auction sites, and i must admit, i am beginning to get really fascinated with all these old brands, kinda like stepping back in history. i was wondering if you could tell me what particular brands to watch out for that are very collectible, and what are the things to look for. i have just run across some unusual brands i have never heard of before, and i was hoping you could tell me a little about them. a men's villereuse 17J, a 1919 elgin 15J, a mens 52 17 jewel watch, an airforce men's 1924 elgin watch, a ladies medana watch, a women's gold caravelle watch, a women's tino watch, a women's soniko watch, and a men's g.f. borel watch. also, if you could tell me what brands to look out for when i run across these things, which ones are collectable, i would deeply appreciate it. thanks so much, benita

I think if you've never heard of a brand or can't find anything on the brand on the internet, it's not collectible. Of course there are exceptions, but in my opinion villereuse, tino, medana, soniko are not collectible. You could have a collectible watch in Elgin & Borel. It all depends on model and so on, so its hard to answer your question.

It will be very near gold value if it's a time only Elgin, in most cases. So say $600-700 ballpark unless it's unusually heavy, in which case it'll be closer to $1000.

New to this site, trying to find information on a watch my father gave my mother many years ago. My sister has the watch, so I'm unable to post photo. It is an Elgin ... sister says it is 24K gold, and was the 50th Anniversary "Lady Elgin". I can't find anywhere indicating Elgin ever had a 50th anniversary ladies watch. Does anyone know if they did?
