Around 1930...usually not much value beyond the gold content (if it is gold).

Zaf, Do you know why people put square watch like the one above on black rope strap in the 1920's? They really don't go very well together.

While black satin/grosgrain ribbons were typical of 1915 thru early-1920s, black cord bands became more common as original issue on the late-1920s thru 1930s watches. Though the cord bands may not be attractive by today's standards, it was en vogue back then.
