anyone heard of L. E. Hoffman watch? this is the name of the front of my great-grandfathers watch. Serial number is 352932. Two inches in diameter and very ornate in case design. Works just fine. I have had it for 45 years. And, the crystal looks to be plastic! So, what's up with that? It definitely fits like it is the original, however. Anyway, ever heard of this name? |

"L.E. Hoffman" is simply the name of the jewelry shop that originally sold the watch. Hoffman operated a store at 97 Euclid Ave. in Cleveland before the turn of the century. It was relatively common during the period to have watches bear the name of the shop that sold them on the dial rather than the manufacturer's name. With a relatively small order, a jewelry store could have watches with their name on the dial and sometimes even the movement. If you have pictures of the movement, we can identify it from the plate layout and markings. The plastic crystal is definitely a replacement. Greg |
