I have an antique Elgin pocket watch that belonged to my father. It runs and keeps accurate time when it is laying face down. But when I turn the watch face up - it stops running.
What does this mean and can it be repaired?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Sounds like a bent, broken or very dirty pivot on the balance wheel.
