I recently acquired an extremely nice 60's Gubelin Memovox from its original owner who had worn it very little (his wife hated the alarm going off). I wore the watch for about a week after my watchmaker cleaned it and got it up to snuff. Unfortunately during that time, I discovered my watchmaker had left the alarm stem loose to the point where it would pull all the way out. I thought it was ok to wear it temporarily since the crown locked down fairly tight. As to what happened, you can probably guess. I lost the gorgeous original "JL" crown and stem. At least I think the marking on the crown is JL. I can post images if necessary. Would anyone by chance have an extra JL crown in stainless for this watch that you would sell me? Alternatively, please tell me what I should be looking for. I sometimes see JL crowns on the auction site but they usuually have specs like "tap 10" "threaded" etc. What should I be looking for? Would I be able to use a gold filled crown and polish away the gold to base metal if I ran across one of these in the proper specs? Thanks in advance for any and all help. |

Just to clarify my last post, the watch movement is auto, but the alarm is manual. |

I probably have the stems but no crowns. You can plate gold tone ones in white gold or rhodium, so I wouldn't worry too much about the color. |

Zaf, What should I be looking for? Do crowns have particular specs that would make them more easily recognizable for the application they are intended? I am thinking I may accidentially run across a NOS one in the packaging somewhere pehaps at a watch show or online auction, etc? If it were in the packing would it indicate a particular size or style such that I would know it was the correct one for my watch? Thanks |

I'll have to dig one up and measure the tap size. Give me some time. |

You folks seem incredibly knowledgable . . . so I thought I would ask about this watch, which, I'm told, my father bought from a friend of his in the 1950s. It is yellow gold (forgive the photo), and is very thick and heavy. (I have it on a croc band, but I also have the 24k gold band that my father wore it on.) It's not really my style - I'm more of a Timex Indiglo guy - and though it has some sentimental value, I thought I might sell it. Any idea of value; how best to sell such things; etc.? Thanks. |

Dear Gsva: Thanks for asking. But if it really is only worth a couple/few thousand dollars, I think I shall hold onto it for sentimental reasons. Thanks again, though. Lhooq |

Ok, I did some close inspection of the Gebelin Memovox crown. It appears the crown is NOT marked "JL." It looks to be marked with a stylized "G" and a bat wing design. I know the bat wing design has a name, but for the moment, I cannot recall it. I tried to get some images of it, but I cannot focus tight enough, even with a tripod and a macro lens. I guess my photography skills are lacking. I will continue to try and get a good image. In the meantime, any and al help is greatly appreciated. Thank you. |

Question, I just got a Gubelin Memovox and noticed the movement is a Le Coultre movement. Did Gubelin use the JLC Movement? After I restore this watch, it could bring some good bucks! |

Yes the Gubelin Ipso-Vox is a JLC re-badge, then generally go for less than the same in JLC. |
