I just purchased this Memovox. The case back could not be opened and is all scratched up. The crystal and bazel are scratched as well and it sometimes gets stuck and stops! Not good!
It looked so good, that I had to take a gamble on it in the hopes of restoring it. A couple of repair shops here in Miami could not open it up, so I sent it to a restoration expert who quoted me $1400- for a complete restoration.
Is the watch worth putting so much money into it? and any idea about the year and authenticity?

Thanks

Well, when a watchmaker is not able to open
it, the watchmaker is not worth to spend any time with him.
A $1,400 restauration estimate is up the roof.
Thats actually what the manufacturer will quote.

Im sure Zaf and his experts can help you.
At the moment he is overseas but will return in less than a week.

Its an original watch, mid 60s production,
movement is a caliber 825.

from what I see on the picture, the 'damages' and scratches are very minor and should be easy to fix, not to mention the scratches on the crystal that you could even fix yourself if they are not too deep with some polywatch or similar product.

Now for the movement of course you will need a decent watchmaker, but if as you say the watch normally runs and sometimes stops, a simple movement service (i.e. cleaning) should be enough.

And you should get away with both the cosmetic and movement work for far less than 1400$.
Actually I would say even up to 1000$ less.

Otherwise, your watch, and especially the dial look beautiful and in very good condition.
I have the same one which is much less well preserved unfortunately (though mine is running fine!).

Thank you guys for the quick response. I have already asked for my watch back.
I hope to get a reply from Zaf upon his return.

Zaf, finally through this forum I have found the watch I inherited from my late Dad. This is the exact model. I'm glad Sammyboy posted this pic! Could you please tell me what it is and what it may be worth in good condition.

Actually, I believe the back of Dad's is gold not steel. Thanks.

Around $1600 for a gold top/steel back.
