For LeCoultre fans: I ran across the following reference to a LeCoultre watch in USA singer/actress Debbie Reynolds' 1988 autobiography "Debbie:My Life", on page 102. Backdrop: It's 1954 and a young Debbie Reynolds has just been named one of the top 10 most popular young female stars (along with Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor, etc.). She has just met USA singer Eddie Fisher who is riding near the peak of his career. During the next few months: they become engaged to marry, she is introduced to the Queen of England, dines with Cole Porter and meets the most famous celebrities in the world. They marry in late 1955. Excerpt: "He handed me another long velvet box. Another bracelet? No. It was the tiniest, most delicate gold and diamond wristwatch I had ever seen. "It's a LaCoultre," he said watching my face. "The finest wristwatch in the world. There are only three of this style-one belongs to the queen of England, one to the wife of the president of France, and for my little... I was dazzled dumb. Me and the queen of England. (sic)" I think this excerpt is representative of how LeCoultre watches were perceived half a century ago. Ms.Reynolds had a museum in Nevada at one time and was known as a major collector...so it's possible that she may still own the watch. Frank |

Great post thanks. The Ladies platinum diamond watches, back in the 1950s, sold for a then staggering $1500-2500, even more on custom models. |
