Could someone please confirm how authetic (model, parts, year, etc) this watch seems to you. I have placed an Ebay bid on this watch described as Serial number 563968/Cal. 481 and would be glad to have an expertise before giving away my money. Thank you for your most precious site. I'll give you my very uneducated guesses: 1. The watch looks like a "Powermatic" from the mid-1950's. 2. The case looks like a European version with the number on the back and screw-in case rather than the press-in case used in the US. However, without looking at the movement, you cannot be sure. 3. The dial has been refinished. I don't think the JLC factory used that logo at that time. Printing seems a little off kilter as well. Also, I've never seen a factory black dial with white printing from this era. Usually, gold on black is the norm. 4. Not sure about the hands either. Unless you get this one at a steal of a price (rare these days on eBay), I'd pass. It would take a lot of time and money to get it looking like an original Powermatic. Just my $0.02, gatorcpa |

thank you for your answer. Here is the (final) price of that monster: 560 USD. Now what? According to me it's just about it's fair price, since a decent Powermatic goes around a thousand. Please comment... Again to be sure of what your saying : This watch is made of a lot of bad work on a original what... black dial (which i seek for)?... and very ugly hands... I need advices (and love, ain't we all). |

afterthoughts : 500 USD is far from a setal of a price. |

I hope you did not pay $560 for that watch. That price might be OK for one in nice shape and all original, but not for that Frankenwatch. |
