... there is one out there on the 'Bay with what looks like an original watchband. Auction is over in a couple of hours.

Here it is:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=ADME:B:WNA:US:112&item= 130005102426&id=

If I had a steel or white gold LeC, I'd be all over this, but since mine are all yellow or pink gold, then someone else should grab it.

BTW, I am not the seller, nor am I connected in any way.

It's just that originals come up so rarely (particularly in 16mm width), someone should take advantage and get two nice original JLC watchbands in the bargain.

Good luck,

I had been watching the auction all along and won it. Seller is right here in SF, also. Too bad it's for a 20mm lug spacing. These black silk/suede straps were the type used on the very earliest versions of the Vacheron-signed Galaxy Mystery Dials.

Was it only produced for the US market, or was is used also for European JLC ?

That would be a US market buckle.

Again, the difficulty with all these vintage buckles is that they don't fit a modern strap of the same lug size. The vintage straps had much more taper. Whereas modern straps tend to taper about 2mm from lug-end to buckle-end, the vintage straps had 4mm of taper or more. That's why so many vintage buckles get thrown away when the strap is replaced.

I have a question for all specialists around here :-)

I'm still looking for a buckle for my 1958 JLC.
The watch had originaly a gold band marked Roland Gaschen, a jeweller who worked with JLC in 1958.

Do you think that late 50's JLC could have been sold sometimes with Gaschen buckles ? Or were they exclusively sold with JLC buckle ?
I imagine well JLC working with external jeweller for gold or metal band (they are works of art in themselves)... but for a buckle?

I'm asking because Gaschen still exist, and still produce a buckle model from the 50's.
