We have a bit of a discussion on the french watch forum I where I am a regular. The moderator, who is a well known Zenith fan, is claiming for a long time that Zenith has produced movements for Jaeger LeCoultre at some point probably in the 60's. I have always countered this fact, asking for some kind of proof. Yesterday, another poster came up with this technical sheet for the Zenith 2011
Now, to me this is the typical JLC movement layout, and I recognise the Jaeger LeCoultre 818, which has btw the same dimensions...
I know that this calibre has been used by the Vacheron (cal 1002) at the time and also more recently by Breguet (cal 530), which is somewhat frequent for a jaeger LeCoultre calibre, as JLC was an ebauche supplier (and sometimes even more than ebauche) to these brands. But then, what is this calibre doing in the Zenith line ? Was it produced - as it is claimed - at Zenith factory, or was it produced by JLC and distributed to Zenith, as it was to the others ?? Zaf, Ilja and others, what do you think ? |

First of all, in terms of the Swiss watch industry *ANYTHING* is possible. Showing a technical sheet from a Zenith parts catalog doesn't prove a thing. I'd expect to se them showing this movement as a matter of course even if it was in fact made by another manufacturer. The layout is classic JLC, so I'd imagine they are the source of this movement and not Zenith. |
