I have an opportunity to buy a Duoplan Brancard, but I am suddenly seized by doubt. It looks like a very masculine watch: steel, no ornamentation, just the brancard lugs. However, it is obviously very small... I know that the style of the 1930s was towards the small side, even for men, but were the Duoplan only intended for women ? I just would not want to make a faux-pas and be seen wearing a woman's watch, even if it is as amazing as a JLC Duoplan !!!

The Duoplan exists as both a mens and ladies watch. Both are VERY small, which is really unfortunate because they are very pretty. The model you show also exists in both mens & ladies, so it's just a matter of how big it is, either small for the mens and very small for the ladies.

Thanks for that info.

The actual dimensions are 30mm x 165mm (including lugs). So, would that be a man's or a woman's ?

One last question: how "desirable" is this Duoplan model ?

I haven't had one of these in a while, but with 16.5mm in width, I'd say it's a ladies one. The most desirable Duoplans are the largests ones which are around 35x23mm.

Hi!

Like Zaf mentioned, the watch shown above is clearly a Ladies watch. Surely the price refects that as well. Men-size Duoplans seldom sell under $US/EUR 1000...
A personal note:
I bought a Ladies Duoplan 10 month ago, just to have it in my collection...
At Christmas I gave it to my Mom, since that day she is "converted" to mechanical watches and wears it daily.
Perhaps this could be an option for you too... :-)
