hello jlc members, has anyone seen this memovox before, with this dial, what is your opinion on the work and dial, authentic or not? greetings from gsva amsterdam Item number: 8945865062 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8945865062&rd=1&sspagename=ST RK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1 |

The dial is 100% authentic and correct. I see these all the time and you'll also find pictures of this model in the Shugart guide. The dial appears original and unrefinished to me. There are other problems, though. The seller is calling the movement a caliber 811... it is actually a caliber 911. The teardrop lug stainless case appears to be a case from a very early 1950s Wrist Alarm that was designed to house a caliber 489 movement. The movement sizes are close enough to work. The movement in the auction is about a decade newer than the case. The dial is correct with the movement, but the case isn't correct. The presentation box also does not belong to this watch. The box shown would have been paired with a lady's watch. Notice how the watch won't even fit in it entirely in the pictures. Greg |

I have seen 2 steel alarms that were very similar to this one. There is a case with elongated upside down V shaped lugs, very similar to a hard to find futrematic that is being faked. Both of the cases I saw looked brand new and had the 911.The serial numbers on the inside caseback were sort of crooked and on one of them the alarm pin was rounded off at the top.One seller on ebay even claimed that the case was new. This guy claims to be an expert but if you notice the Lecoultre chronograph that is also being offered,it looks just like those fakes that are coming out of Canada Paul |

Here is an example of a Memovox Wrist Alarm I sold a while back which shows the correct dial and movement for this teardrop lug case:

It may be the resolution of the screen, but that looks like a refinished dial to me. There are several dial & hand styles that are correct with this case. I do however agree that the eBay alarm is a composite of parts. |

Greg, Once again, another refinished dial. I do not want to be antagonistic but you have routinely represented yourself as "authoritative". Your dial was glaringly refinished...shame on you! |

Polaris King, I never claimed the dial on the pictures I posted was not refinished. Nor am I of the school that believes refinishing a badly degraded dial is a bad thing. What's your point? You made wild accusations in another thread that I had sold worldtime Memovoxes with refinished dials and/or improper parts. Absurd. If a dial is so poorly degraded that it is no longer attractive, I will not hesitate to refinish, but I will *never* represent a refinished dial as original. Furthermore, I have never refinished a worldtime dial in the 20 years I've been collecting, nor have I ever found a refinisher who could accurately repaint one of these complex worldtime dials. It makes your accusations look quite ridiculous. It seems odd to me that you would take such offense to my earlier stance *against* replica parts that you would now stalk me on the board and throw mud. Very strange behavior. At the very least, if you want anyone to take you seriously, have the courage to post your attacks under your real name. Zaf, Ilja, Clavi, myself and others don't hide behind a mask. We post in the open, with our real names. We also don't provoke fights on the board or make personal attacks. We may have strong opinions and spirited discussions, but your behaviour here has crossed the line and become personal. It violates the common courtesies we observe with each other on the board and is a distraction to the others who meet here to have serious discussions and learn. Go find somebody else to troll. Polaris King isn't lying. Looking at the latest 8947627016 Gregory auction indicating an original dial. It is obviously a redial with T-Swiss-T, The T is indicating that Tritium is used for luminosity. However I can't see any Tritium on the dial. Why do you lie Greg? |

Hello. A couple of things: 1- If you could please use a consistant and real name, it would make comments a lot more credible. 2- That dial DOES have luminous on it at each 5 minute mark and that is correct on many dials of this period, so using the argument that this is a redone dial because it says T SWISS T does not hold water. Thanks, Zaf |

I believe Me too was on the right track but couldn't see the luminous because an original dial would have old yellowed luminous. This would be consistant with older dials matching the hands old luminous. This dial is obviously new and not original. |

Not necessarily. The dial looks OK to me. The lume could have been touched up, I don't think that's a crime. This is the last time I'll ask to post with a consistant and real screen name, thanks. Zaf |

I'm afraid I went ahead and IP banned you. It matches at least 2 other ID's on the board (I think you know who you are), and I'm just not all that thrilled with anonymous attacks one people's auctions or posts. This is not what this is all about. I probably would not have an issue with your posts if a real person had some legitimate questions and posting with their real name, but this crosses the line. Thanks, Zaf |
