I own a stainless steel `Jaeger Le Coultre `Memovox automatic wrist watch with date and ALARM. This watch has case No.127571 E973, Caliber No.916 and movement No.211440. I need further information about this fine time piece. I shall be extremely grateful if I am furnished with the details of this watch or on the other hand if I am directed to the right place to obtain the same.

Hi Subrai,

and welcome to the forum.
Please confirm the Reference# (E XXX) it could be a typo, I only find a E 873 in the archives.
Movement and case serial should have 7 digits.
Otherwise your movement would have been produced in the early 40s... :-)

You must have a 2 Million movement serial #, that would date to 1969-1970.

Further to Zaf's reply, the caliber 916 was the first full-rotor automatic Memovox movement(w. bi-directional winding). As far I know, it was produced between 1969 and 1983.

Hi all

I'm new to the board and I too have a stainless steel automatic Memovox with date at the 6 o'clock position which I've owned from new, bought in London around 1971. It is completely original and I have worn it every day since then. This watch has a lot of sentimental value for me. We've been together a long time, 32 years now. For example on my wedding film of 1977 (shot on silent 8mm home movie, since transferred to video) you can see me, looking a damn sight younger and my faithful old JLC is clearly visible. I've since divorced but the watch remains with me though not the wife!

Serial no. is 1272936. I have no way of opening the back to find the movement serial number but in 2000 I sent it to the factory in Le Sentier for a very costly complete overhaul and the invoice which I've kept shows that it is a Calibre 916 movement.

I've no idea what it might be worth now, be interested to hear any views. I can't see me selling it after all this time but be good to know in any event. Any other information anybody has would be very welcome.

regards

Hi, what shape is the case? The value is more for round ones than it is for oval or cushion shaped ones.

Hello Zaf

Thanks for the response.

The case is rounded rectangular, in "portrait" orientation, ie. with the longer sides vertical. I presume this is the cushion shape you mention. The dial is blue and the alarm time is indicated by a rotating disc, not a separate hand.

OK, value on this model is about $700 to $1000 depending on condition and if it has the original bracelet.

I see that the pictures don't even show the numbers . The back has 1031322 and MEMOVOX under that. The front of the watch says Jaeger-LE Coultre at the 12:00 position and AUTOMATIC under that. Thanks Mike A

I am on vacation at the moment and do not have my records, but off the top of my head it's a refernece E855 with caliber 825 with 18k top and stainless steel back. Year is anywhere from 1962 to 1970. If you give me the movement serial number we could narrow that down.
