I am a newcomer with classic watches. I have recently bid and paid for a JLC watch from ebay # 8912122241. The movement is from LeCoultreCo and the casing Jaeger-LeCoultre. Is this normal ? I have a unpleasant feeling to say the least. Please help with information about this watch.
Thanks

Actually you have it the other way around. This watch has been redone but it appears that the movement is real JLC. The case back is LeCoultre and might not have been original. The case looks redone, maybe not but the dial appears redone. It could be that the dial originally said LeCoultre and when it was redone they made it JLC.

The vintage looks like 1970's + to me but I am not an expert. If the watch works well, then you got a good value. Original watches in this condition pre 1969 would be a little more I think. For an automatic JLC, it's good IMO.

Dear Hex Onx,
Thanks for help. If the case and or the dial is new/redone, in any case not original JLC, then my fear is correct, unfortunatly.

I think the watch is a bad deal. The back is very polished and the top is gold plated. The dial, most likely, should be marked "LeCoultre" given that it has a LeCoultre movement. On the other hand, you should have done your homework before bidding.

Zaf,
Thanks. You'r right about my lack of homework (and lack of knowledge). Lesson for the future. First real bad experience at E-bay. Got the idea that something was not right from this forum.

On the other hand, the watch was well represented with very clear pictures, so it is just au question of not enough homework or not knowing what the value for this watch in this condition is worth on the market. I wouldn't call it really a bad eBay experience , just a beginners eBay experience.

Finally, you will end up with a nice looking watch with a very nice Jaeger LeCoultre movement (whatever is written on it, LeCoultre or Jaeger LeCoultre the movement is the same) so enjoy it with no regrets !

Agree with both Zaf and Claude. If it works well and it presents itself well, it is a decent beginners experience. I would wear it or keep it as a collection piece that you can turn over in a couple of years. ETC. Good Luck with the watch.
