Can anyone tell me the date of manufacture of my Memovox which has the following movement #: 6656600

Can anyone tell me where I might get a reprint of the owners instruction manual? I have some confusion regarding the operation of the time setting stem.

Are you sure there isn't an extra digit in that number?

I just had the watch rebuilt by Jaeger in Le Sentier. The movement number they wrote in the paperwork is 6656600. The Model# 3079 and the service number 90550.

The numbers are hand written. Maybe there is a misprint? My guess is that this is from the late 60s or early 70s as that is the time frame my mother purchased this for my father. However, it may have been used.

A 6M serial number is not possible. I'm not even sure they're up to 6M today. Is this a manual winding snap back Memovox? A picture would be helpful.

Sorry I was gone so long, was out of town...with the watch on my wrist. this is an auto wind watch.

Based on what U are saying, I bet the Swiss dropped in a new movement rather than repair the old.

I doubt JLC is even up to 6M. They currently make around 60,000 watches a year. As far as photo, please do NOT email me large files as they tie up my mailbox. Just reduce it's size and post here if possible.

I agree with Zaf. This would not be the first typo I see on JLC paper work...
Feel free to email me the photo, Ill post it for you. [email protected]

Pauls watch:

A second photo looks like there is an additional
print on the disk that *could* be HPG.
Paul - please check whats written on the disk.

Looks like a mid/late 1960s cal 911 model which would put the correct movement serial somewhere in the 1.4 million to 2 million range. This doesn't square at all with the 6 million number on the paperwork. You can remove any digit you want and it doesn't work out. That number must represent something other than the movement serial number.

Mid to late 60s sounds about right.

The inner disk contains the setting arrow, the word MEMOVOX appears just behind it. There is a logo 180 degrees from that.

I will go back to the Jaeger - LeCoultre dealer for a "translation" of the paperwork.

The "real" question is: Is the movement suppost to stop when the time setting stem is pulled out?

Thanks for all the help with this.

No, the movement should not stop when the crown is pulled out.... the caliber 911 is not a "hacking" movement. The alarm will stop when the top crown is pulled out, though.

That answers it. Thanks to all.

I going with:
1. movement does not stop for setting.
2. when moving backward, pass desired time and then move forward.
3. the watch was made in 1966 as the first digit was missing: 16656600

1966 sounds right, but take off one of the zeros at the end to give you a 1.66 million number instead of 16.6 million.

Since you are talking memovox, can anyone tell me about this one? I don't own it, but it is up for sale and I am interested.

Apparently only one crown is marked, the other is plain.
Any idea on the price I might expect to pay for this watch?

I think we discussed this very same watch in a thread called "Gold Filled Memovox".

One thing we didn't discuss in the other thread is that the dial appears to be a re-paint. The picture is fuzzy, but the print looks a little course, the JLC siggy at the top is too close to the markers and the luminous dots in front of each marker don't appear quite right.
