The pictures on all the excellent writeups on the Mark XI depict a self-compensating screw balances with Nivarox breguet overcoil. But I have recently seen several that lacks the screws, such as this one currently on Ebay. Can anybody enlighten whether this one without the compensating screws is correct for the Mark XI?

Afterall, the Cal 488 SBr denotes it should have the Breguet balance. Perhaps the one on the auction piece has been replaced. Thanks in advance.

The 488 Sbr Balance should have screws if that is the question. I would rather not comment on this seller or the watch since I have nothing positive to say. Perhaps Ilja would care to.

Finding parts to repair a vintage JLC is VERY VERY difficult, so probably the only chance to get the watch into running condition was to use a regular balance.
Actually not many people ask for an entire correct balance, so you must be a die-hard Chronometer collector.

The auction shows a balance in motion so how can you be sure it is not a correct balance?

Regarding the seller I agree with Zaf. - No further comment.

Hmmm. The sellers description passed the Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level 5.3 readability test. Wow, a 5th grader could have wrote this. :-)

Wow!! Sure learned much more than I bargained for, especially from the unspoken (unwritten) part. Great forum. Many thanks.

Zaf, I guess you are right. Australia must have a different set of English standards or it's the Australian keyboard. :-)
