I believe this dates to the mid-1950's; can anyone provide further guidance ? I can't seem to locate the movement ref # or any charts (I may just be reading it incorrectly ;< ) It's 18kt. TIA! http://mysite.verizon.net/vzeeepqq/jlc_ys1.jpg http://mysite.verizon.net/vzeeepqq/jlc_ys2.jpg http://mysite.verizon.net/vzeeepqq/jlc_ys3.jpg http://mysite.verizon.net/vzeeepqq/jlc_ys4.jpg http://mysite.verizon.net/vzeeepqq/jlc_ys5.jpg |

It's an American market watch, I believe it was called the "Royale", early 1950s. |

Its tough to make out the serial number on the movement in your picture, but I believe I'm seeing 1033717. I think that would correspond to a production date of roughly 1953-1954. This model was indeed called the "Royale", but I don't think I have ever seen a manual wind caliber 480 version. Most of them had a bumper automatic movement. Now I'm curious... gotta look through my literature to see if I can find anything on the manual wind version. The automatic version retailed for $235 in the mid-50s. Greg |

Hi Greg, I've seen them both ways, manual & auto...$235 in the 1950s was HUGE money 3 times the price of a Rolex sports watch. |

Zaf, Yep, $235 was a lot of money. There's an interesting calculator online that lets you apply inflation/CPI figures to convert old prices to 2005 dollars: http://www.austintxgensoc.org/calculatecpi.php Using the default figures for average inflation, $235 in 1955 would equate to a price of approximately $1,700 today. A friend of mine showed me a watch he found in the trash yesterday (!) It's a JL square (ladies I think) watch in gold. Please find attached a very bad quality cell phone pic. Any ideas? |

I think I need to hand out an award here. Either for the worst picture or for the best cell phone picture, I'm not sure which! But seriously, it's going to need something a little better in order to know what the thing is exactly. Zaf |
