I found this forum a couple of weeks ago and have already got a lot of useful information from it. It's a great forum, thank you. I have a couple of questions about a 1970s bumper I bought recently. Apparently it has a caliber 825 movement (not sure how to get the back off so don't have the movement number). The number on the case is 1222782. I will upload some pictures taken by the guy I bought it from. I wonder if it is possible to establish the year of manufacture? Also one of the crowns on the watch is non-JLC and the other is slightly damaged. Is it possible to get replacement JLC crowns and where might I get these? (I live in London in the UK). Finally, do you know of a reliable repair person in London or South East England that could service the watch for me and sort out the crowns? Any information you can give would be very much appreciated. Robert

Hi Robert, right now I'm on the road, I do not have my records with me. Off the top of my head, they stopped making the caliber 825 in 1969. Are you sure it's a bumper? It looks more like the caliber 916 full rotor model. |

Hi Zaf, Thanks for the quick response. I am not at all sure that it is an 825 or that it's a bumper. Is there any way I can tell if it's that or a 916 without taking the back off? Will email you re the repair. Thanks again, Robert |

Hi Robert, the movement indeed is a 825 bumper automatic. We need the movement serial to date the watch, but from it's design very late 1960's. Crowns from time to time pop up on ebay, but its difficult to figure out if one fits the watch... Ilja |

Thanks Ilija, I will get the serial number when I have it serviced. I don't guess JLC will sell the crowns as spare parts? I know I could send it back to them for servicing and they would probably fit proper crowns but then I'd have to pay their famously enthusiastic servicing prices! Robert |
