I have come across a vintage ladies watch that is signed Lecoultre. Is there a difference between a watch that is signed jlc on the dial, or just lc? Do you think the dial and casing is genuine? Appreciate your help.

The watch is quite correct and genuine. I even have an original 1951 magazine advertisement for this watch which gives its model name as the "Rhonda". It sold for $110 in 1951 (quite expensive for the times) which would equate to almost $820 in 2005 dollars.

My late Father gave me a small oblong "staybright" cased JLC wristwatch with an ivory dial, gold hands and markers, case number 21476. Theb movement is a 15 jewel unregulated with a number 55739. I would so much appreciate help in identifying model, date of production etc. Could the watch have been purchased prior to 1941???

It's hard to exactly date the very early serial numbers, but I would guess that 55,739 on the movement corresponds to 1936. If you have a photo, screen resolution please! I can zero in on it a little more.

Dear Zaf....I will get some photographs done. If the watch is pre-1941, then it almost certainly belonged to my late Grandfather, who was killed in the early days of the blitz bombing in London. My Father wore the watch when I was a child, but would never let me try it on. Does the caewe number have any meaning??...I am so grateful for any information you may be able to provide.

I'm fairly sure it is pre 1941. The case numbers are unique serial numbers for the case. I'm not able to date watches via the case though. Does the dial and movement say "LeCoultre" or "Jaeger-LeCoultre"? Was it purchased in the US or abroad?
