I'm trying to determine a valuation for this watch & have seen people offering up to $15,000 for them & also looked at completed auctions on ebay for them. Does anyone know anywhere to either sell it outright, or in the alternative, does anyone know a value for it? Has original leather band & in perfect condition, hardly worn by my dad over these many years!

I believe that the LeCoultre Mystery Dial models were only manufactured from the early 1950s until the mid-1960s. Your estimated 1940s date is probably a little too early for the watch.

$15,000 also sounds WILDLY out of range. There number of model variations of the Mystery Dial produced by LeCoultre over the years (manual, automatic, gold-filled, 14K, 18K, 37-diamond, 14-diamond, 2-diamond, no-diamond, textured bezel, smooth bezel, men's, ladies', etc.) I've owned/sold almost every version of the Mystery Dial you can imagine. Value of your watch will be dependent on which model you have, so pictures will be necessary in order for Zaf or others to appraise your watch.

Nevertheless, I've never seen a Mystery Dial that even approached $15K in price. The most desireable model is probably the early 1950's 14K 37-diamond model that is jointly signed by Vacheron & LeCoultre on the back. This model averages $1,700 - $2,500 on auction sites and the top price I've ever seen was $4,500 for a new old stock (unworn) Vacheron-signed model with original box, papers and original strap and 14K buckle. I was the one who sold it.
