I just obtained a 1950s stainless Memovox with alarm but without date. The watch runs, but the alarm does not work. I suspect it has not been serviced for decades. I'd like to replace the crystal, perhaps clean the face and have the watch fully serviced. A local high-end jeweler quoted a price of $800, which seemed high to me. Does anyone have any suggestions on fair prices and/or technicians who do good work? Thanks...Jeff Whittle

Yes that does sound on the high side. Half that is more than fair. Unless the dial is trashed it is not a good idea to "clean it".

That's helpful information. Do you have suggestions about good jewelers who would do a good job at that price?

Thanks....

The problem is that no one can source parts for these watches anymore. Is it a wind up or an automatic?

You have a caliber 815. Parts may be an issue on this watch....I'm trying a new watch maker out this week, if he's any good, I'd be happy yo try to help you out.
