Hello all, sorry to be making such an opportunistic first post but I'm thinking of buying the below Galaxy on ebay but something doesn't look quite right about the case and lugs, could someone give it a once over for me? Many thanks, Brian http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/LECOULTRE-VACHERON-MYSTERY-WATCH-1950-60s-/250646926269?cm d=ViewItem&pt=UK_Jewellery_Watches_Pocket_Watches_Accessories_ET&hash=item3a5bb8 93bd#ht_500wt_1154 |

Sorry if I should have put this in the 'Is my watch genuine?' please delete if so. Also couldn't figure out how to post pictures. |

The watch is quite genuine and correct. It is simply the less-common 36-diamond autowind version of the Galaxy. Most of the Galaxy models you'll see are the 37-diamond manual wind versions. The automatic version has different lugs than eny of the manual version types and is slightly thicker to accommodate the thicker bumper autowind movement. It has one less diamond on the dial to allow space for the word "Automatic" just above the 6 o'clock marker. The autowind Galaxy was issued in many different variations, including both snapback and screwback versions (this one is snapback), either white or yellow gold, black or white dial. Greg |

Thanks a million greg, much appreciated. I wonder how high you think I should bid? |

The bidding is entirely up to you and how much you like the watch. I don't know the seller of this watch, but I've probably bought/sold 100 of these LeCoultre Mystery Dial models (manual wind and automatics, combined) over the last few years. Current market value is roughly $1,500-$2,000 USD in average condition. The autowind models seem to fetch a bit less than their manual-wind brethren, despite the fact that the automatics were produced in lower numbers. Good luck! Greg |
