G'day Zaf and to all,

First postin here. Recently picked up an interestin leCoultre vintage pilot. Not a mil issued piece unfortunately but one I have not seen before.

I'm trying to figure out if its stainless steel. Case looks too clean to be chrome plated and its an unusual piece as it looks to be a cross between a leCoultre Weems (dial & crown) and a chunky case similar to a JLC www. Movement is a cal. 450

Any info would be appreciated

Cheers (pics are from the seller)

It's stainless steel, with a weird alloy bezel, I have had these a few times before, but was not able to determine if they are issue timepieces or not.

Thanks for the reply Zaf.

Would JLC be able to identify if they were issued pieces? Or they don't record such info.

No, they will not be able to. They may be able to tell you where the movement was delivered.

The movement is marked VXN that would indicate that it was made for the US correct? Or its not a clear indication?

I have also found the same watch from an owner on another forum who has mentioned that his/her example was sourced from the military but does not possess any mil markings. Would that be the usual practice for US mil watches not to have markings on their case backs? My sample supposedly dates from 1943.

I have enquired with the other owner which branch it was sourced from but have not received any info as yet.

These watches are "sort" of Weems design, same crown, same dial. The bezel or better inlay rests in a ring sharp groove similar to the Weems design.
