Need help, it was my Grandmother's who died in 1965, it has been in a safety depost box since. The face says LeCoultre, on the back it says Palladium. The band has 12 larger diamonds and the face is surrounded by small ones. I was thinking about making it into a ring, but the Jeweler yelled at me. I would sure appreciate more info. on the watch and an idea of its value.

Hi. This is not the most popular style of watch, so the value is likely around the value of the palladium (a metal similar in price to platinum) and all the diamonds + say $100-200. A good jeweller will be able to make that determination. Age looks to be from the 1950s.

Too bad, I guess it looks so good because it was in a box for 40 years!! I live in Frederick MD, the only jeweller didn't have a clue, other than to tell me it looks quite valuable. I have been investigating since.

Guess turning it into a ring for my daughter isn't a bad idea.

Regards,

Karen

Well it is valuable, it's just in the $100s not in the $1000s.

I'm curious, while trying to find info. on this watch, I have seen another that looked anything like it. Did they make many? Or are they not out there because they aren't very collectable?

The Jeweler I spoke with said that the diamonds used were of very high quality, not normaly seen in a watch. Is that tipical for LeCoultre?

Is the bracelet also marked LeCoultre? It may be an aftermarket one. My guess is that it is not marked LeCoultre and added to the watch by the jeweler that initially sold it.

No, the bracelet is not marked. This has been very interesting finding out about this watch. I'm into old homes and antique furniture. Thanks for all your help! Hey Mister, want to buy a watch? :-)

Ok, the bracelet is likely something that was bought along with the watch abd fitted to it or added later. So value is as I mentioned earlier, you'd need a jeweler to estimate the cost of the gold and stones.

Seriously, want the watch part? Not worth my time to try to sell. I will be turning the bracelet part into rings, one for me and one for my daughter. I'm not having them reset. The band is platinum and each side makes a very cool ring. Nice way to enjoy, remember Gma, she died when I was 6 and better than it just sitting around for another 40 yrs...

Thanks,

Karen

OK, I just want to find a good home for it, do you know of anyone who may want it, someone who would appreciate it?

I could try to sell it for you if you'd like. Just contact me privately if that is what you want to do.

How do I do that? If it can't be sold, perhaps you know of a collector who is just getting started that may appreciate it. I just don't want to put it away and have it sit around for another 4 decades. Been dealing with too many things like that lately. Use it, enjoy it, or out the door! :-).

I am that unusual person - A lady who has started collecting JLC dress watches! I have purchased two in the last month which are stunningly beautiful. I have probably paid too much for them but I am on a learning curve! I would love the opportunity to make an offer on this watch. I do hope the owner does not break it up, it's lovely as it is!

Christine, go ahead and email her, I'm sure she'd be happy to hear from you. I'd also like to see it stay as one piece.
You can get her email from the name on the first post.
